Submersible pumps are a device with an air-tight sealed motor that is close-coupled to the pump body which ensures that water never touches an electrical component. The whole device operates submerged in the fluid to be pumped and most models can operate partially submerged. This type of pump prevents pump cavitation which is a problem often associated with a high elevation difference between the pump and fluid surface. Submersible pumps push fluid to the surface as opposed to jet pumps having to pull fluids, which in general is more efficient.
